Bienvenue en Louisianne!
Introduction
As the heading above states, the League of the South seeks to advance the cultural, social, economic, and political well-being and independence of the Southern people by all honourable means. However, the South is a relatively large place with a diverse population and interests. Indeed, it is true that throughout the South, there is a common culture which binds her people to one another in such a way that our separate nationality cannot be denied. Yet, as our Colonial and Confederate forebears recognised, within any nation there are particularities which cannot be managed by a centralised authority. This was why the fundamental American principles of federalism and States’ Rights were the cornerstone of the old American republic.
However, since the Confederacy’s surrender at Appomattox, that cornerstone has been shattered. The original republic of sovereign States has been replaced by a centralised, socialist/fascist regime in Washington, D.C that is aggressive abroad and despotic at home. Since Appomattox, successive generations of Southrons have been fooled into thinking that their respective, sovereign States, as the parties to the Constitutional compact, no longer possess the power to restrain their servant – the federal government. They have been led to believe that their States are but mere administrative districts of the central government, and that through the dictates of its supreme court, it is the sole judge of the extent of its powers. This is the attitude of slaves, and it must be reversed if we are to be truly free and self-governing.
Thus, it is the mission and duty of the League of the South to educate our people about their true history, to encourage them to revere and celebrate their unique culture, and to lead them towards independence and the establishment of a new Southern republic. A republic in which the principles of federalism and real States’ Rights will once again be the cornerstone upon which ordered, Christian liberty will be built. The first step we must take towards creating that new Southern republic is to regain control of our respective States and establish their independence. Afterwards, the people of those free and sovereign States may form a new union, or unions, as they see fit. Instead of being bound to a foreign and oppressive government by bloody bayonets, the free consent of the Southern people will give us the power to have a name and place among the nations of the earth. May God hasten the day, and may God save the South!
For a free and independent Southern republic,
Mark A. Thomey, Chairman
Louisiana League of the South
